I'd like to share what I've learned.
I borrowed this book from the library for my husband, but unfortunately he is a busy entrepreneur who has no time to read. So I decided to read it myself and communicate with him after I finished reading what I've learned from this book. I also thought of others, who would find this an interesting read, especially if they are at a crossroads in their life or just want to ignite that drive or imagine of starting your own small business.
The author writes about the 10 key rules of successful entrepreneurship. Honestly, some of these rules can also be applied to everyday living. He also wrote on the book to share what you've learned. So here they are as follows:
1. Make the commitment.
2. Find a problem, then solve it.
3. Think big, think new, think again.
4. You can't do it alone.
5. You must do it alone.
6. Manage risk.
7. Learn to lead.
8. Learn to sell.
9. Persist, persevere, prevail.
10. Play the game for life.
Here are the 5 key points that I will embed in my mind and hope to implement:
1. The importance of selling as an entrepreneur, credibility with a combination of integrity and competence is just as important as passion.
2. An important lesson for anyone becoming an entrepreneur: Find a problem that badly needs fixing and offer a bold new solution.
3. Crucial ingredients to surviving in business is the determination to persist, persevere and prevail.
There are three successful entrepreneurs used as examples in this book, one that struck my mind was the woman entrepreneur, Marla Beck, a HBS graduate, who launched her own high-end, eco-friendly cosmetic line called bluemercury. The last 2 key points (quotes) are from her.
4. Marla talks about survival in business. " If you can survive through all the tough times, you'll be that much stronger when the good times finally come."
And lastly,
5. The tenth key rule of playing the game for life. "Entrepreneurship isn't just about solving a problem, building a venture, managing risk, or making money. It's about having a positive impact on the world, making the most of the gifts you've been given, and realizing your full potential as a human being. An intelligent entrepreneur, in short, plays this game for life."
Hope what I learned will help you too!
